Thirty-nine years at Citi. Three chapters. One new mission.

I retired from Citi in January 2026 after thirty-nine years, and I started Digital Verity and NJSecure the same month. This is why.

Geneva: putting institutions on the internet

For three years in the 1990s I brought the United Nations agencies in Geneva and Rome, including WHO, UNHCR and WFP, onto the internet for the first time. There was no playbook. We built the infrastructure and the operating model that connected them to the world, and I learned that when you connect an institution to everything, you also connect everything to it.

Silicon Valley: handling customers' financial data before the rules existed

For two years at Yodlee I ran operations and security for account aggregation, delivering it securely to top-tier banks ahead of the regulation. Speed without trust was never an option, because the banks' customers were on the other end.

Citi: thirty-nine years across all three lines of defense

My career began at Citibank in 1983 building the platforms that moved wholesale payments and delivered market information. I returned after the UN and Yodlee to lead technology, information security and data governance across every line of defense, from Citi's first-generation cybersecurity program and its critical infrastructure protection operations to the bank-wide FDIC deposit insurance program, a first among large banks. Safety and soundness was the job. I learned what it takes to keep a global bank trustworthy, and how much of that work never reaches the institutions that cannot afford it.

The mission now

Community banks and local utilities carry the same obligations as the largest institutions with a fraction of the staff, and adversaries are now weaponizing AI against them. I am spending this chapter building the communities, research, and products that give them enterprise-grade defenses, and paying it forward by mentoring the next generation of cyber talent alongside the universities we work with.

Trust is verified, not assumed. That is what I spent thirty-nine years learning, and what Digital Verity exists to deliver.
